Louisiana residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. The state also offers same-day voter registration at polling places on Election Day.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of Louisiana.
- Be at least 18 years old by Election Day (you can pre-register at 16, but you must be 18 to vote).
- Not be under an order of imprisonment for a felony conviction (voting rights are restored once you are no longer under supervision).
- Not have been declared mentally incompetent to vote by a court.
Registration Methods:
- Online Registration:
- Register online using the Louisiana Online Voter Registration System.
- You’ll need a valid Louisiana driver’s license or state ID to complete the online registration.
- By Mail:
- Complete the Louisiana Voter Registration Application.
- Mail the form to your parish registrar of voters. You can find the addresses on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
- In Person:
- Register in person at your parish registrar of voters, DMV, or public assistance offices.
- Voter registration drives and events are also commonly held in public places.
Registration Deadline:
- The deadline to register online or by mail is 30 days before Election Day.
- If you miss the deadline, you can still register in person up to 20 days before Election Day.
Confirm Your Registration:
- After registering, confirm your voter registration status through the Voter Portal on the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
