Maryland residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. Maryland also offers same-day voter registration during early voting and on Election Day.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of Maryland.
- Be at least 18 years old by Election Day (you can pre-register at 16, but must be 18 to vote).
- Not have been convicted of buying or selling votes.
- Not be under guardianship for mental disability, unless a court finds you can vote.
Registration Methods:
- Online Registration:
- Register online through the Maryland Voter Registration System.
- You will need a Maryland driver’s license, state ID, or the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- By Mail:
- Complete the Maryland Voter Registration Application.
- Mail the form to your local board of elections office. Addresses can be found on the Maryland Board of Elections website.
- In Person:
- Register in person at your local board of elections, DMV, or during early voting.
- Maryland also offers same-day voter registration during early voting and on Election Day at polling places with valid identification.
Registration Deadline:
- The deadline to register online or by mail is 21 days before Election Day.
- If you miss the deadline, you can still register in person during early voting or on Election Day.
