Michigan residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. The state also allows same-day voter registration, even on Election Day.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of Michigan.
- Be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
- Not be currently serving a sentence in jail or prison after being convicted of a felony.
Registration Methods:
- Online Registration:
- Register online using the Michigan Online Voter Registration System.
- You will need a valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID.
- By Mail:
- Complete the Michigan Voter Registration Application.
- Mail the form to your local city or township clerk’s office. You can find clerk contact information on the Michigan Voter Information Center.
- In Person:
- Register in person at your city or township clerk’s office, the DMV, or during voter registration drives.
- Same-day voter registration is available at your city or township clerk’s office on Election Day. You must bring proof of residency and identification.
Registration Deadline:
- The deadline to register online or by mail is 15 days before Election Day.
- If you miss the deadline, you can still register in person at your city or township clerk’s office up to and including Election Day.
Confirm Your Registration:
- After registering, confirm your voter registration status using the Michigan Voter Information Center website.
