New Jersey residents can register to vote online, by mail, or in person. The state does not offer same-day voter registration, so be sure to register before the deadline.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of New Jersey.
- Be at least 18 years old by Election Day.
- Not be serving a sentence or on parole/probation for a felony conviction.
- Not be declared mentally incompetent by a court.
Registration Methods:
- Online Registration:
- Register online through the New Jersey Online Voter Registration System.
- You will need a valid New Jersey driver’s license or state ID, or the last four digits of your Social Security number.
- By Mail:
- Complete the New Jersey Voter Registration Application.
- Mail the form to your county commissioner of registration. You can find county contact information on the New Jersey Division of Elections website.
- In Person:
- Register in person at your county commissioner of registration office, local motor vehicle agency, or authorized public assistance agencies.
Registration Deadline:
- The deadline to register is 21 days before Election Day. Be sure to submit your registration before this deadline to be eligible to vote.

- You can check your voter registration status using the Voter Search Tool on the New Jersey Division of Elections website.
